Dermal fillers have become hugely popular in recent years, for the augmentation of facial contours, the correction of asymmetry, rehydration of the skin, filling lines and wrinkles and volumising areas which have succumbed to the natural ageing process.
The treatment is non-invasive and does not require an anaesthetic, scalpels or sutures and there is no lengthy downtime. Dr Bhavin offers a range of dermal filler procedures using only the safest and most effective products and innovative techniques.
Dermal fillers are injectable substances. They contain hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring sugar which is found in the body, in areas such as the eyes, connective tissues, the joints and of course, the skin.
As we get older, our natural levels of HA deplete, leaving the skin dehydrated and tired looking. The facial features can suffer, hollows appear, deep set wrinkles can form, the cheeks can sag and jowls can appear. This can all leave us feeling older than our years and self-conscious.
There is a myriad of facial and skin concerns that dermal fillers can help solve. Below is a list of some of the most popular dermal filler treatments.
• Revitalising thin, asymmetrical, lined or dehydrated lips
• Re-filling hollow temples
• Restoring sunken cheeks
• Lifting and disguising under eye bags
• Re-shaping the nose (non-surgical rhinoplasty)
• Defining a weak chin
• Lifting jowls
• Creating a more chiselled jawline
• Correcting deep set lines and wrinkles
• Full facelifting without surgery
Most patients who are unhappy with one or more areas of their facial appearance can usually benefit significantly from a dermal filler treatment. However, before any non-surgical treatment can go ahead, we request that you attend an initial, no obligation consultation with one of our medically-qualified dermal filler practitioners. This meeting will enable you to discuss what bothers you about your facial concerns and ask as many questions as you wish, regarding your treatment.
Your practitioner will also check your medical history, to ensure that you are suitable for a dermal filler treatment and that it will not affect your health in any way.
Before your dermal filler treatment takes place, the area/s for treatment may be made numb with a topical anaesthetic. Once the numbing cream has taken affect, your practitioner will inject a specific dosage of the selected dermal filler into the area/s to be treated.
Depending on which areas are to be injected, a needle or cannula will be used. Cannulas tend to be used more often now, for dermal filler treatments, as they are blunt-ended and minimise bruising. Once the product has been injected, your practitioner may shape or mould it into place, so that it integrates smoothly with the skin tissues, or shapes the facial contours for a natural look.
As with any injectable procedure involving the use of a sharp needle or indeed, a cannula., there may always be some degree of discomfort or a strange sensations but there should not be intense or intolerable pain. As well as a topical anaesthetic, dermal fillers now contain Lidocaine, an injectable anaesthesia which numbs the area as it is injected.
The use of cannulas also minimises discomfort, swelling and bruising, as the blunt-ended instrument glides past blood vessels and veins and maintains the integrity of the skin’s tissues.
As dermal filler injections are not invasive as surgery is, there is no ‘clinical’ downtime (a period of rest and recuperation at home). However, you may experience some slight bruising, swelling and tenderness in the treatment areas after your dermal filler treatment. This can last a few days to a week.
Any side-effects such as these, can be helped with the use of arnica prior to your treatment, ice packs afterwards, and aftercare such as avoiding hot saunas, baths and steam rooms in the days that follow your filler procedure.
Your results will essentially, be seen immediately after your dermal filler treatment. However, you will need to take in to account any swelling that might occur after your treatment and allow time for this to subside.
As a general rule, we advise waiting at least 2 weeks after your dermal filler treatment, before you return to the clinic for any top ups or alterations.
There are many factors that affect the longevity of your dermal filler treatment, from the particular indication that has been treated and the product used, to certain lifestyle factors such as smoking, excessive sun-exposure and strenuous cardio exercise.
In your initial consultation we will discuss the expected longevity of your results and suggest a treatment plan to include top ups and maintenance of your final results.
